Village House in Caravonica, close to the Italian Riviera

Caravonica is a lovely village nestling at 360 m above sea level north of Imperia on the Riviera di Fiori coast. There are two restaurants a village store and post office. It is about 15 minutes by car from the Autostrada dei Fiori (A 10) and about 1 ½ hours from the airports at either Genova or Nice. It can also be reached by train to Imperia Oneglia from Genoa, or Nice with connections to TGV services through France and Eurostar to London.

Beautifully restored by a young Italian couple in 2003 the front door of this village house leads to a kitchen/dining room with antique marble sink, modern electric oven and gas hob and feature wall niches.

A spiral staircase leads down to a small cellar and an open staircase leads up to the lounge with its feature fireplace and floor tiles from a 17th century mill.

On the top floor baroque wooden doors lead to the two double bedrooms and the bathroom. The main bedroom has a small balcony. The bathroom has washbasin, WC, bidet and a bath with shower. A cupboard in the bathroom houses the gas boiler that supplies hot water and heating by radiators in all rooms (except the cellar). (The gas supply is from a local LPG network so no need to keep changing cylinders!)

A short distance from the house is the garden with two terraces overlooking the valley towards the recently restored Santuario della Madonna delle Vigne and also to the village of Cesio and the Passo di Ginestre.

The top terrace has been planted with Oleanders, a Mimosa and a Cherry tree as well as rosemary and lavendar. There is a patio area and Garden Room with power and water.

A short distance to the North of Caravonica is the small town of Pieve di Teco with its porticoed main street and a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, and the beautiful, tiny Teatro Salvini. To the South there is a large supermarket at Pontedassio (about half way to the coast). There are many lovely beaches to choose from along the coast and a number of marinas if you need a mooring for your boat.

Other nearby places of interest include Imperia Porto Maurizio with its Naval Museum, Duomo and biennial Vele d’Epoca (a large festival of classic sailing boats), the coral fishers’ church at Cervo and the artists’ commune at Busana Vecchia, a village destroyed by an earthquake in the 1800s. A little further afield are Valloria with its painted doors, the smart coastal resort of Alassio and San Remo with its casino and major shopping opportunities. Ski resorts at Monesi and Garessio 2000 are also easy to reach.
All the furniture and appliances are included in the sale except the cupboard in the lounge and the chest of drawers and wardrobe in the master bedroom.
